Those badges are sweeeet.
Anyway I've never particularly like the map but I can objectively see the greatness to be had and why it is popular, although not a fan of insanely spammy monster generation, the game really tries to be unique and have decent changes from the standard wc3 system.
this is the second post, read the post below first
In short: Not spectacular, but a very nice map. Takes a few tries to get used to all the towers and places to build, but after that it's very very simple. The map is improving greatly each version, but it really needs more attention to details (tooltips and models) and could use some balance on very weak towers. But even with all that it's very enjoyable, and the hard difficulty makes it somewhat addicting.

My review of Fortress Survival Alpha 4.80
I've been following this map for some time now, and it's one of those maps that I always check the new things when a new version comes out. Let's see why...
When I started loading the map I saw a very beautiful loading screen. Classy black and white (which also reduces the file size) with colors on important topics and most important: the release date. The only thing I disagree here is the font used for the title.. It seems a bit medieval for a map with machine guns.
When the map actually starts, it jumps to a cut scene (well, sort of) that is pretty pointless in my opinion, but harmless (and very short), and then you finally start the game.
The game is a like a tower defense in which you have lots of different areas to build, each with its own weaknesses and strengths. The problem here is that most of them are wide open and only a few (I found only one actually) is closed enough to provide good defenses.
The towers set is rich in variety, but as usual, some of them are somewhat useless compared to other towers, and there's not technical description in the tooltips, forcing you to test each one of the towers to know if it's even worth building.
The lumber system is nice, one of my favorite parts of this game. You have to stop building towers to build mills that grant you a small lumber income, which is used to buy the advanced upgrades and build the advanced towers. Simple, balanced, and force you to have a strategy. Loved it.
I like this map despite the small effort on balancing the towers and the tooltips, simply because it's simple and enjoyable. And of course, the feeling that you could have gone a little bit better if you changed that build order. All that with a nice sound/music of drums in the background, that kinda puts you in the right pace.
