Yeah, I agree with BW. However, I would like to see an incentive for making a map that is overall popular, and as such, you are the "owner" of such, and not in the case of I uploaded X's map, and I'm getting the bonuses for his work.
But incentives for development are always a good thing, especially if nibbits were to cater to it, as burn out is a high probability disease with map development =P
We should have a group of official map reviewers who write featured reviews.
I feel that too often map rating is done by buddies within map making community, particularly from sen, and because of its exclusive nature the map making community hasn't grown
there are maps that are decent & get about 15 rating's within weeks of their release, and then there are maps that are just as good or better & they get like no rating at all (AKA my maps)
so we need these official reviewers to promote good works in neutral manner
Notification when someone comments on your maps/projects - so that you don't miss it if someone's asking a question about the map.
EDIT: The information is actually already available in Account -> Projects/Maps -> Comments. But it doesn't notify you when you get a new one, and it's not organized by date.
mb53I totally agree. People also just rate maps 1 for their one exp.
This is very true.
Also, featured reviewers would be awesome. As the community grows taking a perspective of different people would be great, and finding the good maps that are often underrated would be great.
In order to rate a map there should be a common knowledge question about the map that u must answer for ur rating to go up that way they atleast tested the map.
I suggested this review thing to dcramer a few weeks ago. I think it would both help Nibbits and its community.
Make a separated rating for reviews, in a way that you can search for (or sort for) it, ignoring the other ratings.
Also, of course, the user has to have a level high enough to post a review.
There are many possibilities regarding this topic. To name a few: - List the number of reviews in the profile page (possibly linking to them?). - Reviews are always (or at least during the change period) submited to moderators. - Add a tab for reviews in the map's page (like in Details, Edit, etc..). - You can use the tab that's actually being used by Projects for Latest Posts for (latest) reviews.
PS: Nice to see that we have so many members interested in this. =]
I think ratings combined with comments are a good enough review system. As you can update the map information as your writing comments or rating a map to help others decide about it.
I've rated a lot of maps on this site as 1's because they quite frankly weren't very good (or terrible as the comment said in my opinion). This is primarily on the melee side as I was helping sort out that section so that someone could list them all by ratings and at least get to look at most of the better maps first before the really crappy ones show up. Nibbits has a lot more quantity than quality and it's important to help other users sift through it by rating maps appropriately.
Questions for a map wouldn't work to allow rating, I don't think we have a huge problem of people not playing/looking over maps before rating so this isn't really a big issue.
I think that most likely ratings will be turned into reviews (at least for maps). I have to put some more thought into this, but there would obviously be two types of reviews:
Staff Reviews
User Reviews
A review would be separate from a comment, in that, many times you dont need to rate (or already have) the map when you're posting a comment. A review would also have more strict guidelines for it, such as length, and some other various checks. With that, we would give additional bonuses (to xp/gold) for reviews, and maybe even some other things.
Yes a review team. Having your map reviewed is sometimes a big factor in wanting to upload it at all. If a person knew that people would be reviewing their submits then, I think, the site would explode with activity.
But because there are so many maps, a team mod would have to assign team members certain maps to test and review. That way all the maps are getting reviewed and others aren't getting special attn.
btw dcramer u should look at staredit.net's review system b/c that was a complete fail, and no one pays attention to it anymore.
the review system needs to matter a lot, if it will be introduced at all. sen's reviews did not in any way influence the rating of map, and there was no standard protocol regarding rating types/areas, such as terrain, gameplay, etc. that there was no incentive to write decent reviews cuz all u had was a generic 1~5 star rating at the end.
I always do a quick overview/review of maps I upload on nibbits describing important information (filling in description, about gameplay, etc.) and then commenting my personal feelings about the map after submitting it as well as rating it. If everyone did that for maps they submit it would go a long way to helping people find the best maps more easily. Of course there are also all the maps submitted a long time ago to sort but then that's why the search feature is so useful :D. A play as you upload system helps a lot in keeping new content organized and giving potential downloaders more of an idea of what they are downloading.
-Shorten tags to 2 letters. You can't put "TD" as a tag.
-I think the featured maps are bugged, I just uploaded final fantasy and it changed, but then i uploaded green TD, got a website error, and now its the second featured map lol
I think it would smart to have new users register their birthday date as private data, so that when it is their birthday, nibbits can send them a birthday greeting.
This how nibbits can try to retain ppl who might have left or lost interest in the community
mb53I think that we should be able to edit comments we make on maps. It is so annoying to me to see that I misspelled something and not be able to fix it.
Agreed, and I bet we're not the only ones who find it extremely annoying.
for example, on someone's birthday, a german chocolate cake that costs 300 gold to order & recipient earns 100 gold (200 to make the cake) and a small icon/badge of chocolate cake at his account page & also at user box next to his forum posts
but the recipient must read the message saying "u received a gift" b4 the chocolate cake appears
and
sending pranks like "u received a gift," u open it and its actually picture of a pig.
-------
also wat about a virtual pet that appears and floats around when u log on

Thats a very nice idea. Why didn't we think of that b4 lol..

So far I think that everything on this page are great ideas.

I think BW Map God would be a good staff reviewer.
I mean just look at all the rating's and comments hes put out so far
----
btw we should have each review process last at least 1 week
and for each review u write, u receive 35 pts.
-----
and there shuld be a nibbits channel where u can go and find ppl (perhaps a team of reviewers) who will join & play for ur reviews.
Yes a review team.

Oh, ya it was sorting it backwards by rank. It's fixed now.

Since I currently don't make maps, I'd love to be an official reviewer. That and it would be pretty cool to see ideas I suggested in a map.
Agreed, and I bet we're not the only ones who find it extremely annoying.
Comment editing is live (as are some other fixes so they work like forums).
Good now we can find out who rushed on comments by who fixes their typos now and who is just a little kid that can't spell :P.
I can'tspul Gus cab I dropp out of da elemnteries skouuls.
