Bot advertisment on bnet?
submit to reddit

  • What are your thoughts on having a bot advertising on bnet about this website? This will certainly create a bridge for players wanting to discover new maps as well as share hidden gems.

In retrospect, I remember the scuum.net site (incorrect spelling) where it had a massive Starcraft Broodwar map database. The site no longer exist and many great maps have disappeared through the internet. Although this site trolls through the internet finding more maps, it cannot visit PCs where many untouched maps are located. Bot advertising will provide information of the existance of this SC map database and allow people to share some maps.

Once in awhile logging in bnet the public channels are spammed with messages - "Does someone have [insert map] plz can i have it!?" Many bnetters are looking for maps and people aren't so keen in helping. Bot ad will direct map requester to this site, hassle free.

Although the use of bots are abused b.net, that doesn't mean nibbits shouldn't use them as well. The bots can run on any channels posting a one sentence ad - "Nibbit.com - Starcraft map resource". No CAP LOCKS and no posting under 5min intervals.

  • I actually was attempting to bring out more branding by doing game hosting. I'm not too keen on advertising (spamming), I'm really only agreeable with it when it actually benefits users.

For example, on WC3 we were auto hosting some of the more popular/quality maps, and within that we threw up a "Sponsored by Nibbits.com" kind of deal.

  • @dcramer Completely agree.

To anyone else reading this thread: Plus, if you want to show your dedication to the Nibbits community, just go ahead and gently remind - not spam, of course - people in public chat channels that this site exists. It's our little way of giving back to the community, so consider convincing just one or two other people to join the site, and it'll be far more effective than any bot.

  • Or, point to Nibbits as a default place to download your maps in your websites (the java widget in the map page helps a lot).

Be preparaed for reviews at a whole new level..

I def need to improve that widget so it works for projects and is it a bit more customizable.

  • I put the site in my bnet sig. Then when i make posts the ppl can see the site url w/o making it the main focus/spam

Well the link is to my (really slow progress) map lol..
But still gets people coming here

Another way would to get some of the really good map makers to host there maps here.. word of mouth to get really good maps is better then spamming bnet forums.

  • I think its a good idea to expand the community, a lot of people that play starcraft would definately be interested in a lot of aspects that nibbits has to offer, ive told a lot of my friends about this website and they've found a lot of games on the map database for starcraft.

    Edit:
About the "Being sponsored by Nibbits.com" on warcraft 3 hosted games, I think thats a good idea, when I use to play dota on WC3 I would usually checkout the websites of the bots or clans that hosted games.
